JournalJournal Your Way to a Clearer Mind
September 22, 2008

Journaling has become an accepted means of reducing stress and coping with everyday life. If you feel that your days revolve around rushing to get ready for the next activity, journaling may indeed have something to offer you. The joys of being a mom are unparalleled, but we often don’t focus on the time we need to grow as women or the effort needed to create an emotional sense of well being.

There are several different types of journaling you can undertake. In its most basic form, you can merely begin to write down the high and low points from your day, and the emotions and thoughts you associate with them. If you fancy something a little more creative, scrapbook journaling is a great way to track your families’ progress, and to one day hand down a wonderful heirloom to your children.

On a Friday evening, gather your friends and fellow moms and have a girly scrapbooking night. Chat, laugh, eat, and fill in your weekly scrapbooking journals together. If you are interested in beginning your own journal, here are some added motivators.

How Journaling Can Help You

Stress Reduction – If you are having a particularly stressful time either at work or within your family, writing down thoughts and emotions that you usually don’t express or explore, can greatly reduce your stress levels. Rather than letting the anger and aggravations of the day eat away at your sense of well-being, journaling offers you a private outlet to channel your thoughts and express your feelings.

Motivation – Whether you are trying to shed those pesky pounds, or find a strategy to deal with toddler tantrums, writing down the game plan and daily results can work wonders. When you have bleak moments and are tempted to give up on your goal, you can flick back through your journal and be proud of how far you have already come. Progress is a great motivator, and will encourage you to keep persisting.

Boosting The Immune System – Journaling has been proven to reduce the amount of common ailments many moms suffer, and can also positively impact asthma and arthritis symptoms. Not only does journaling offer you an outlet for stress, the physical process of writing something down means that you are taking time out for yourself and relaxing.

Improved Cognitive Functioning – This is a fancy way to say that journaling helps your brain to function more efficiently. Skills such as writing and even critical thinking certainly tend to decline to a certain extent if we do not use them. Writing regularly can give your problem solving skills a boost, provide enjoyment, and also give your grey matter a nice bit of exercise!

You don’t have to be an award-winning author or have an extensive range of equipment to journal. Remember, that this is your journal, and unless you choose to share it with someone else, it is for your eyes only. We moms often neglect quality time with ourselves in order to spend quality time with our loved ones. Journaling will help you feel less frazzled, calmer, happier, and almost certainly improve your personal and family life.

Journal Recommendations: Show your personal style with a laser-engraved custom journal . Upload your own artwork using anything from your logo to sketches to photos. We love these journals for their edgy look. Put down your thoughts in style!
